Afternoon tour continued……
We boarded the Hop On Hop Off bus at Sausalito and headed back across the Golden Gate Bridge for the City Tour with an over enthusiastic guide, who didn't draw breath.
We drove through residential areas with lovely old fashioned multi storey, colourful homes, butted up against each other, many with fire ladders, and mostly all in good condition. Because of the tramways around the city, the overhead wires were quite an eyesore for taking photos, but necessary!
We meandered along Haight Street which immediately took us back to the 60's as it's home to the original 'Hippie' movement. The neighbourhood is bright and zany and there was so much to look at – crazy characters, wild clothes shops, pipe and smoke shops, and interesting eateries…. a fun part of town!!!
We also visited Chinatown and Union Square and all in all it was a great trip around this wonderful, diverse city, covering many miles and finally returning back to Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf. Spotting a Boudin Café, we just had to enjoy another good coffee and lemon slice, whilst our mates devoured crab chowder and beer across the way from us!!! If we had seen them first, we might have joined in and 'had what they had'!!!
Sadly, it's time to 'farewell' San Francisco and it's almost the end of our wonderful voyage. Our last sea day tomorrow and time to pack those suitcases!!
