THURSDAY, 22ND JUNE, 2017 – SEWARD, ALASKA

We woke to the most spectacular view this morning in the port of Seward, Alaska….  Lush, tall green pine trees rising up enormous snow capped mountains – just a picture!

We did Seward on our own today and it was nice to get off after all those sea days.  The pretty harbour was full of all kinds of smallish boats – and luxury sailing boats.  Along the harbour foreshore were colourful little restaurants, bars, shops, fish cleaning bays (with greedy otters below)…. our ship looked gigantic!!

We didn't take the shuttle bus to 'downtown' but walked around the foreshore.  There was quite a large trailer (caravan) park on the shores (not very flash and no grassy sites!!) with spectacular views of the snow capped mountains and they all had their own camp fire pits.

The little town was just that – just a few streets, not too many homes, old fashioned shops/facades and big wide streets with mainly pick-up trucks and sedans driven by the locals going about their daily business.  With the best part of 3,000 extra people in town, it made the local barristers a bit hot under the collar, trying to keep up with the demand!!

We spent some time in the SeaLife Center, which showed off much of the underground world in Alaska…. puffins with their own deep water tank, seals, beautiful coloured fish, anenomes and a massive Stella sea lion, just going round and around his/her tank and popping out every now again for a good pic.

Lunch beckoned and we sat in a window seat in a great little restaurant and ate salmon and crab cake burgers, washed down with Alaskan beer, watching the world (or Golden Princess passengers) pass by!!

We ambled back after 6 hours walking the town and gathered for our sail away get together with friends jabbering about their adventures today…..  on our way for a couple of days of scenic cruising.
