WEDNESDAY, 31ST MAY, 2017 – MANILA, PHILIPPINES

A very warm and colourful welcome into the port of Manila this morning and as we had booked a city tour for the afternoon with Princess, we decided to go ashore on our own on foot.  As  many of those working on the ship are Philippino, there was a big change over today of crew, as well as many of them wanting get off to see family members during the day.

Again, it was very hot and also extremely busy with choked traffic around the terminal.  The roads were bumper to bumper with trucks, buses, Jeepneys (old Jeeps restored from US war vehicles) cars & motor bikes.  Crossing the roads was very  hazardous and the pavements were shocking with huge holes everywhere.  It didn't take long to discover that this was a very poor part of town and home to many 'street' people and families, so it was back to the ship for lunch.  We thought our poles and wires were an "eye sore"!!!!  Attached are some photos of our morning in Manila…. to be continued
